January 7, 2019
I always make it a point to declutter around January just so to get a good start for the rest of the year. I have grown to love decluttering as it gives me that sense of satisfaction of tidying my place up or even any aspect of my life. I believe in Marie Kondo's Konmari Method: knowing what sparks joy and what doesn't. I do digital decluttering (I no longer have Facebook), I deleted old files that I never actually used (as a graphic & web designer I have a lot of digital garbage). I sorted my clothes and sold a bunch of stuff that I never really used. One new category that I did was to declutter my decks.
In general, I do learn a lot from decluttering but in this article I will share with you what I learned from decluttering my decks:
1. TRY NOT TO GIVE IN WITH MY COLLECTOR SIDE.
I admit I go beastmode whenever there are newly launched indie decks. I automatically want to get my hands on it. Thing is, when I finally received these decks, there are times that I don't connect with them at all and I regret buying them in the first place.
2. SPIRITUAL (OR DECK) DECLUTTERING IS A MUST.
As I was doing my decluttering, I had discovered decks that I had forgotten that I have. And that is enough reason to let them go. I've figured out which decks are worth keeping and which decks I need to find a new owner or home. I have this great feeling of satisfaction seeing my shelves are tidy with the decks that I could not live without on display. It's like falling in love with them again.
3. I FEEL MORE MATURE NOW AND HAVE LEVELLED UP.
Deck decluttering taught me to be mindful and to be cautious before buying a new deck. As I've mentioned in my previous articles, decks aren't easily accessible in Manila especially indie ones. Which might have contributed for my immediate love for indie decks.
