REVIEW: DARK WOOD TAROT
Updated: Oct 1, 2020
Unboxing, First Impressions & Review
The Dark Wood Tarot is a shadow deck. As you may noticed, my practice focuses on soul work and shadow work. I am excited to use this deck!
WHAT I LIKE: 1. THE ARTWORK & CARD STOCK. Artwork is by Abigail Larson. I've been drawn to Abigail Larson's artwork because of its dark and enchanting style. I love her version of Beauty and the Beast, Edward Scissorhands, Penny Dreadful and most especially Hades & Persephone.
Guidebook is a Dark Wood Tarot has a 304-page full-colour guidebook and published by Llewelyn. Bonus Points: has a good book smell!
It has gold foil stamping on the back, a book themed box with your LWB.
It's available on Amazon and Book Depository.
Had in a month.
5. THE INTERVIEW
INTRODUCE YOURSELF: Knight of Pentacles
Slow and Steady. I love that the Dark Wood Tarot introduces itself as a Knight of Pentacles. Makes sense since this deck is a shadow deck. As per Sasha Graham, creator of this wonderful deck, 'The Shadow Self is a term used in analytical psychology representing the hidden and repressed parts of our personality.' Getting to know this deck will take time as it helps you face all the hidden parts of you.
WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS? Sun
'Expansion, renewal and growth. Brilliance and beauty.' These are the words used for the Sun card as seen in the guidebook.
WHAT ARE YOUR LIMITATIONS? Five of Swords
Cruelty. Given that not all are brave to face their own shadows, this deck shows no cruelty but rather it is a healing deck.
WHAT CAN I LEARN FROM YOU? High Priestess
The High Priestess is the archetype of the authentic self which makes this deck a good guide when you start doing inner work.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CONNECT WITH YOU? Page of Wands
The Page of Wands lights a fire to help you focus on your journey.
OUTCOME OF OUR RELATIONSHIP: Hierophant
The Dark Wood Tarot deck will serve as a mentor as it teaches you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and embrace the dark. By acknowledging your shadow self, we become balanced and whole.
WHAT I HATE:
Still not a fan of Llewelyn's massive box. Such a waste of space.
I've been a fan of Abigail Larson's work for some time. Been pinning it a lot on Pinterest. I am always game with anything that has to do with shadow work. This deck is highly recommended.
That concludes my review of the Dark Wood Tarot.
