REVIEW: THE SHERLOCK HOLMES TAROT

August 12, 2017

As a fan of Sherlock Holmes and have read the books, it is only natural that I bought this deck. I was squealing like a little girl when I saw it at our local bookstore.

WHAT I LIKE:

1. THE ARTWORK.

The artwork is so nostalgic. I'm in love. It brought the theme together in a Victorian era manner.  Gas lamps and foggy streets, you got it!

It's like having your own mystery scene.

2. CARD STOCK

The cards are 2 7/8” by 4 7/8” with white borders.

3. GUIDEBOOK

The Guidebook is packed with information that you need. The suits are Observation (Swords), with an eye as an icon; Evidence (Wands), with a foot as an icon; Analysis (Cups), with a magnifying glass as an icon; and Deduction (Pentacles), with a question mark as an icon. The Court cards are Baker Street Irregular (Page), Peeler (Knight), Lady (Queen), and Inspector (King). How awesome is that?!

4. AVAILABILITY

You can buy the deck at National Bookstore.

5. SHIPPING

Not applicable locally.

6. THE INTERVIEW.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF: Peeler of Evidence

The Sherlock Holmes deck is adventurous, quick-witted, impulsive and fearless.

WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS? Baker Street Irregular (Observation)

The deck can be valiant and watchful. It can be precociously alert to events happening around him. This deck can help you find a way through the most tortuous problems.

WHAT ARE YOUR LIMITATIONS? Four of Analysis

This deck is limited to feelings of apathy and dealing with mundane matters.

WHAT CAN I LEARN FROM YOU? Lady of Analysis

Because this deck functions as a themed deck, your intuitions will be sharpened as you rely mostly on what you see on the artwork (without the guidebook at hand that is).

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CONNECT WITH YOU? Ace of Deduction

The best way to connect with The Sherlock Holmes Tarot is to value its purpose. By recognizing how clever this deck was created, you will be able to be drawn to its own world within.

OUTCOME OF OUR RELATIONSHIP: The Giant Rat of Sumatra (wild card / extra card)

The wild card as the outcome signifies that the world is not yet prepared for this deck.

WHAT I HATE:

Hmmm, the massive guidebook and box. You can't just put this in your bag and bring it anywhere without breaking your back.

SCORE: ★★★

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This is not a good learning deck for someone who is a beginner. This comes off as a collector's deck if you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes. You may need to read and memorize the guidebook or be familiar with the story itself if you want to use this as often as you want. I enjoyed seeing all the characters representing a Tarot card and often find myself nodding in agreement as a character pops up - for example, Mrs. Hudson as the Lady of Deduction or the Queen of Pentacles.
